Article: The Heartlands Refugee Art Prize 2012
The Heartlands Refugee Art Prize 2012 showcases the artistic skills, talents and creativity of refugee artists in Victoria and opens up pathways for them to develop their careers. The $15K prize celebrates the contribution that refugee communities make to the social and economic fabric of Victoria, and at the same time gives refugees the opportunity to share their stories with the broader community. The Heartlands Refugee Art Prize 2012 exhibition is running as part of the Emerge Festival, coinciding with Refugee Week. The Heartlands Refugee Art Prize 2012 is presented by AMES and Multicultural Arts Victoria in partnership with VicHealth, Parks Victoria and South East Water.
Exhibition :6 – 16 June 2012 at fortyfivedownstairs Gallery, 45 Flinders Lane, Melbourne in the lead up to Refugee Week - 5 – 28 July 2012 at Walker Street Gallery, corner of Walker and Robinson Streets, Dandenong as part of the Emerge Festival - All exhibited works will be available for sale.
Prize Pool -
Winners will be announced at the Heartlands Refugee Fine Art Prize 2012 exhibition launch on Tuesday, 5 June 2012. -
Total prize pool equals $15,000.00 in cash and prizes is designed to support artistic output and career aspirations
- $5,000.00 First Prize (plus a solo exhibition and artist in residence opportunity. )
- $3,000.00 Second Prize
- $2,000.00 Third Prize
- $1,000.00 Newly Arrived Refugee Prize (arrived in Australia from 2005)
- $500.00 Honourable Mention Prizes (for eight artists)
