Artist: Anastasia Klose
Anastasia Klose is a 30 year old video/performance/installation artist who has been exhibiting for 5 years. She grew up in Melbourne, attained a degree in Philosophy and English from Melbourne University in 1998, and then undertook a Bachelor of Fine Art (achieving first class Honours in Drawing) from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2005. After experimenting with installation using found objects/detritus and cardboard, she developed an interest in video art. During her Honours Year she taught herself to edit films in the computer labs at VCA, and would often spend entire weekends there. Since then, she has developed her video practise by further experimenting with public performance, text, and music in her videos. She is primarily influenced by popular culture (films, video clips, advertising and television), yet could arguably be seen to be working in the tradition of expressionism. Anastasia’s use of her personal history, combined with humour, pathos and her lo-tech aesthetic, result in short, highly accessible video works that many viewers can relate to. So far, she has participated in group shows at Conical, Monash University Caulfield and Westspace, and has had solo shows at Span Gallery and Spacement. In 2007, Anastasia spoke at the high profile AGIdeas design conference, and is exhibited in New07 at ACCA.
