Why do you make art?
I know I am onto something good when it makes me laugh. I enjoy those moments of clarity.
Who do you make it for?
I’d like to think I make it for myself.
Do you have heroes? If so, who, if not why not?
The Rammellzee, Aphex Twin, Jean Paul Gorte, Warhammer 40k, Mf Doom to name a few.
Do you plan out a piece or do you wing it?
A healthy mixture of both, I like to wing it to start with. I enjoy the uncertainty of using found materials. It forces me to improvise. I like the restriction of relying on the forms and shapes in the rubbish people throw away. My work is founded on symmetrical forms and as a result I am often forced to search at great lengths to find the exact pieces I need. I enjoy the detective work and the quest that precedes making a new piece.
Once I have built a foundation I am happy with I will usually sketch a series of ideas.
How do you know when you are finished?
When I start worrying that I am going to stuff up.
What was the first exhibition/artwork you saw that blew your mind?
Wild style graffiti at a Brisbane train station, I was 7 years old.
Name a recent exhibition that impressed you?
‘Perfect from now on’ Dan Price and Jack Slattery at TCB,
‘Ultima Forsan’ AIMEE FAIRMAN @ Kings ARI
If you could have any artwork in the world what would it be?
Honestly I have been stewing over this for a few days, I really am having trouble to commit
