Why do you make art?

Because it takes ideas out of my mind - and because I just can’t not make art.

Who do you make it for?

Myself.

Do you have heroes? Is so, who, if not why not?

Many. People who are clever, creatively uncompromising, entertaining, outrageous, kind, generous, tolerant, empathetic and compassionate. I don’t particularly like men at the moment.

Do you plan out a piece or do you wing it?

I think about a photo/series I want to create for a very long time, and when I feel ready, I arrange for the shoot. I am very flexible when it comes to the actual shoot. I don’t fight any aspects of the process that shift the idea into different areas, and the outcome is often somewhat different from how I envisaged it.

How do you know when you are finished?

I just know. If I don’t like a photograph, or a serries, I just won’t display it.

What was the first exhibition/artwork you saw that blew your mind?

All of these equally: Helen Chadwick’s entwined pig intestine and blond hair cibachrome transparency 'Loop my Loop' 1991, the Hendri

'Electricladyland' album cover, and the title of the 1981 Rolling Stone magazine with Jim Morrison on the cover: 'He’s Hot, He’s Sexy and He’s Dead.'

Name a recent exhibition that impressed you?

The Ballarat mineral museum.

If you could have any artwork in the world what would it be?

Edvard Munch’s 'Vampyr' 1893–94. And a series of lovely photographic prints of every single dead women celebrity.
