Robert Leonard in describing Anastasia Klose's video work Film For My Nanna, said, "It is at once heroic and pathetic, touching and irritating, entertaining yet utterly self-indulgent. We are embarrassed to watch, yet we identify. It might not seem finely crafted and yet - for what it is trying to do - I don't think it could be done better."
Klose's video works show and say what many of us feel (or have felt at one time) but would never say out loud. Her work is daggy, brave, home made, pathetic, shoddy and just way cool. This young Melbourne artist's work has created a sensation since it was widely seen in ACCA's new exhibition in 2007. Her work is part of the loose, hobo, junk art aesthetic that has been the fashion of late. For Klose's work this aesthetic is employed to deliver humour, pathos and self inflicted humiliation. It is quite neurotic and quite wonderful!
This year, 2008 her work will feature in the prestigious Biennale of Sydney and later in the year in the much more modest surrounds of Apartment in Melbourne.
